Cypress bay high school sound of thunder & color guard

How to become an SOT Leader

Student leadership is an essential component of our program, especially for the Marching Season. It is both an opportunity for experienced students to build additional skills (leadership, communication, musicianship, team-building, conflict resolution, etc.) and an essential help for the Band Director to make the whole season possible.

Leadership applications are usually available during the second semester of the school year and chosen by the band director in May. The leadership application varies from year-to-year, but usually includes a resume and an interview with the band director. Candidates must have participated in at least one full year of marching prior to applying. Other requirements include:

  • Maintenance of at least 2.0 GPA
  • Excellent rehearsal attendance
  • Exhibit excellent levels of responsibility and dedication
  • Must be enrolled in a band class throughout the school year
